FURI Sutairu Shotokan Karate (FSK) Redditch ended the competitive martial arts season on a high as five club members were crowned Grand Champion in Peterborough.

Shihan Treadwell took a small squad to the final competition of the Peterborough Championship Series in what was the third and final event in the series.

And Treadwell led the way after he was crowned Individual Kata Grand Champion having claimed gold in the category on the day.

Student Theo Giles was then crowned Grand Champion in both Individual Kata and Team Kata winning gold in the former and silver in the latter on the day.

Additionally, Giles rounded off a superb day with gold in both the Weapon Kata and Creative Kata categories.

Josh Thorp was crowned Grand Champion alongside Giles in Team Kata and also won gold in the Individual Weapons category.

And fellow student Dean Cooke became Grand Champion in Individual Kata after winning gold on the day having also claimed silver in Points Sparring and bronze in Creative Kata.

FSK enjoyed further success as Courtney Harrison was crowned Grand Champion in Individual Kata after taking bronze on the day.

Also taking part were students Ollie Scott, who won Individual Kata silver, and Richard Giles who held his own competing in his first Points Sparring and Team Kata events against black belts.

Shihan Treadwell said: “It was a great opportunity for all to be able to compete on the national stage again against some really tough competitors and also valuable competition time to work towards the world games in 2023.”

Competitors that finished on the podium over the three competitions were awarded points which are then added up to determine the Grand Champion of a particular event.

A first place finish earns a competitor 15 points, second place 10 points and third place five points whilst all competitors gain a single point for taking part in a category.

And the day began with Shihan Treadwell competing in the Kata section before he was followed by all of his students who took to the mat and showcased their skills in a variety of categories.
