MARTIAL ARTS - Shihan Treadwell leads GB training session

SHIHAN Dave Treadwell led a Team GB martial arts training session at the RSA Academy in Redditch.

The current GB Squad took part in a selection session for the team that will compete in the World Martial Arts Games in Daytona, USA in July 2023.

And the squad consisted of athletes from all over the country taking part in the session and showing their current fitness levels with drills and continued with kata and kumite training.

The session was hosted by Shihan Dave Treadwell but also had a wealth of experience with 6th Dan Master Chris Hemstock, 6th Dan Shihan Shaun Lanham and Sensei’s Mike Bushell and Mat Ward also on hand to coach and support athletes.

Athletes will find out if they have been selected for next year’s Games on Wednesday, December 14 and must then take part in monthly squad sessions at national level and make a commitment to training.

6th Dan Shihan Treadwell said: “It’s an honour to be able to coach and train with such a talented group of people from around Great Britain and be involved in the selection process for this elite event next year.

“I am hoping to also compete and will find out on the 14th December when it’s announced by the National Director Master Chris Hemstock, but as I tell all the athletes, hard work starts with them and it’s the daily routine they put in that makes the difference.”
