Matt Clarke commits to Reds with two-year contract

Liam Moakes 17th Mar, 2021

HIGHLY-REGARDED manager Matt Clarke has committed his immediate future to Redditch United by signing a two-year contract.

Following an eventful but short season in which the Reds completed just eight Southern Premier Central fixtures and ended the curtailed campaign in sixth position, the club have handed Clarke a two-year contract in order to help lay the foundations for a bright future.

After penning the deal on Wednesday, the boss said: “I would like to say how delighted I am to commit my future by signing a two-year contract at Redditch.

“It is a club which means a lot to me and from the minute I sat down with David (Faulkner, chairman) I was desperate to be part of the rebuild.

“We have started well but I believe there is so much more to come and I am excited about helping to grow the club and hopefully continue to put out a competitive side to make the people of Redditch proud.”

A delighted Faulkner added: “This is another huge step forward for the club as we try and build on the amazing strides we have made over the past few months.

“From the outset I have been committed to creating stability and this demonstrates our intent, not only to our supporters, but to the players we will look to retain and recruit ready for the start of the new season.

“It was an important decision for our first team committee when appointing our first manager. We not only wanted someone who had a good knowledge of football at our level, but also someone who had an understanding of our club.

“Matt’s history as a player, captain and assistant manager has been a real advantage. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him over the past few months and I am excited for what he can help us build.”
