Mixed week for White Hart teams

Redditch Editorial 31st May, 2017   0

WHITE HART had a mixed bag of results during the last week of team matches.

In the Heart of England Cup matches, the A team progressed to the second round of the main competition with an aggregate 146-131 win over Yardley Wood Social who gave them a fright despite being four divisions below Hart.

Wins for Ian Humphreys 21-7, Steve Turner 21-13, Ken Brown 21-15 and captain Matt Higggins gave Hart a hard fought victory.

The B team exited the Consolation Cup after a first round 176-152 defeat to Marston Green. Hart had three winners – Mike Estell 21-16, Gill Croft 21-14 and captain Norman Batchelor 21-17.

The over 60s A team moved up to eighth in Division One following a fine 114-86 win over King George V with five winning cards – Ian Humphreys 21-8, Ken Brown 21-12, Ray Richards 21-14, Stephen Turner 21-20 and captain Mike Estell 21-9.

The B team played well on the notoriously difficult Ye Olde Knowle green and only went down 111-99 with two winning cards from Graham Arnott 21-12 and Sue Sugden 21-15, although Mick Perrins (15), Rob Faulks (18) and Kirk Wright (17) all performed respectably, Kirk being 17-12 up at one stage.

The team were given some good news when finding out they had been given a bye to the quarter-finals of the Consolation Cup following their first round win the week before.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague, White Hart jumped back into second place in Division Four with a fine 138-105 away win over Bournville Sports B.

Wins for Neil Laxton 21-9, Ged Dooner 21-12, John Meredith 21-1, Matt Higgins 21-17, Tim Hollingshead 21-19 and captain Kirk Wright 21-6 put them just two points behind local rivals Alcester B.

In the Northfield & District League, White Hart A jump to third place in Division Two after a very easy 166-76 win over Ye Olde Knowle.

The Redditch club had seven winners – Paul Matthews and Norman Batchelor (both 21-1), Ray Richards 21-5, Tim Hollingshead 21-7, Mick Perrins 21-8, Ian Humphreys 21-13 and Kirk Wright 21-20.

In the SW Birmingham Over 60s League, White Hart B moved further away from the Division Three relegation zone with an impressive home win over Solihull RBL, turning around a heavy defeat by their opponents the previous week.

Hart only dropped two shots in the match thanks to wins for Anne Batchelor, Rob Faulks, Kirk Wright and captain Kate Broome, with Sue Sugden and Sheila Humphreys beaten by the narrowest of margins.
