Nine in a row for unbeaten Hart

Redditch Editorial 29th Jun, 2017   0

WHITE Hart B recorded their ninth straight win in the Northfield & District League with a narrow 143-38 success at Romsley & Hunnington.

Captained by Dave Edwards, their victory puts them six points clear of second placed Baldwin B at the top of Division Four.

Gill Croft remains top of the division averages after a 21-3 win and she was well supported by Anne Batchelor (21-18), Neil Laxton (21-19), and Sheila Humphreys (21-14).

In the Warks/Worcs League Premier League, White Hart extended their lead at the top of Division Six with a comfortable 248-154 home win against Marston Green.

They now top the division by two points from Romsley & Hunnington after producing 11 winning cards from the 12 ties which included single-figure wins for Mick Perrins (21-9), Mike Estell (21-2), Stuart Rice and Graham Arnott (both 21-8).

In the Heart of England Thursday League, White Hart’s teams both struggled. The A team lost 157-112 at Kings Norton Ex-Service and are now only two points clear of the Division One relegation zone. Stephen Turner (21-15) and Ray Richards (21-16) were their only winners.

The B team were disappointingly beaten 137-111 at home by Moseley CC B in Division Four. They had just three winners from the eight ties – Mike Estell 21-6, Dave Kings 21-17 and captain Norman Batchelor 21-9 – and have slipped to fourth place in Division Four behind leaders British Oak, although are still only three points away from a promotion place.

The HOE over 60s A team lost 109-95 at Wythall A in Division One after leading at the halfway stage of the match.

Tom Hawkes (21-6) and captain Mike Estell (21-19) gave them hope of victory and Ken Brown only lost by three shots in his tie. That was as good as it got for the Redditch team though and three defeats in the second half gave their opponents a 109-95 victory.

The B team turned around an away defeat at Rubery SJC the previous week by beating them 117-93 at home. Wins for Mick Perrins 21-12, Graham Arnott 21-10, Gill Croft 21-8 and close 20-21 defeats for Sue Sugden and captain Brian Chatterley helped to give them a 117-93 Division Two success.

In the SW Birmingham Tuesday League, White Hart A were defeated 107-98 at Colebrook A in Division One, with only two winners – Mike Estell 21-14 and Norman Batchelor 21-9.

The B team were never in danger of defeat at home to Kings Norton B in Division Three, having a full house of wins from Anne Batchelor 21-3, Brian Chatterley 21-7, Tom Hawkes 21-12, Ken Brown 21-20, Sheila Humphreys 21-17 and captain Kate Broome 21-16.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague, White Hart suffered an agonising 140-132 defeat at King George VI A when victory looked possible during the closing stages of the match.

Wins for Ray Richards 21-4, Tim Hollingshead 21-15, Dave Kings 21-19 and Neil Laxton 21-18 kept the match competitive throughout but their opponents now top Division Four by three points, although Hart are currently just one point away from a promotion place.
