REDDITCH Hockey Club’s women’s second team continued their perfect start to the season with victory against Kings Heath 2nds.
Redditch eased to a 5-0 victory to move top of the table, having started the day in second place on goal difference, and are yet to drop a single point this season.
And Redditch settled into the game quickly to dominate throughout as captain Louise Jennings opened the scoring in the first 10 minutes before Elsie Simpson and Becki Clarke both struck before half time.
Bottom of the table Kings Heath improved after the break only for Ava Goodman and Frankie Griffiths to find the net and lift Redditch to the top of the table.
The men’s 2nds also ran out 5-0 winners against Kingswinford 2nds as Ethan Smith scored twice with Wayne Beard, Ben Haresign and Harrison Young also on target in a confident performance.
However, the men’s 3rds were beaten 1-0 in a top of the table clash at Sutton Coldfield with the game scoreless at the break until a close range goal handed the home side victory and inflicted a first defeat of the season on Redditch.
The women’s first team were thrashed 5-0 by University of Birmingham Women despite Redditch goalkeeper Paige making numerous saves.
Redditch were unable to convert their chances and finished the game with 10 players with no substitutes available to cover for an injury.
And a high shot on goal led to a disagreement with the umpire which resulted in two Redditch players being sent to the sin bin, reducing them to eight players for a short period.
Elsewhere, Redditch men’s first team secured a much-needed win at Olton, however, the men’s fourth development squad’s game was cancelled due to the opposition being unable to field a team.
