ALCESTER RFC’s 2nd XV suffered a narrow 24-21 defeat at Coventrians as the club’s comeback attempt fell just short.

The game survived the weather conditions only for Alcester to conceded four tries in the first 25 minutes of the contest.

This allowed Coventrians to take a commanding 24-point lead only for Alcester to fight their way back into the game.

Birks’ brothers Toby and Noah combined as the latter dotted down in the corner on the stroke of half time to reduce the deficit.

Further tries from Pav Sembakuttige and Rich Beddard brought Alcester within striking distance.

And with Archie Beddard’s 100 per cent kicking success from the tee, the visitors had closed the gap to three points.

However, Alcester ran out of time in their quest to complete a remarkable comeback to suffer a narrow defeat.

Alcester 2nds are next in action when they welcome third-placed Harbury 2nds to Kings Coughton on Saturday, February 28.

Alcester’s first team saw their weekend fixture against Bromyard postponed due to areas of standing water on the pitch at Kings Coughton.

Alcester’s first team are next in action against Earlsdon on Saturday, February 28.
