ALCESTER RFC completed a league double over Broadstreet II with a 32-14 bonus point victory in their final away game of the season.

Christian Rushton crossed twice while James Hibbard, Jamie Clarke,Will Silk and Mark Burrell all dotted down at the Ivor Preece Field.

The result means Alcester sit sixth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.

Alcester scored the game’s first try when Hibbard crashed over after a superb break from the impressive Dwayne Cruickshank.

However, after Broadstreet missed a penalty attempt at the posts, the home side scored a converted try to take the lead despite appearing to obstruct Alcester in the build-up.

The visitors responded later in the half as Rushton powered over in the corner following a series of strong drives from the forwards.

And Clarke stretched Alcester’s lead with their third try before Cruickshank and a Broadstreet player were sent to the sin bin.

Alcester picked up where they left off after the break as Rushton fed captain Silk for the away side’s bonus point try.

And Rushton picked the ball up behind his advancing pack and went in under the posts to score his second try of the match with Ed Gough kicking the extras.

Broadstreet scored a second converted try when the home full back exploited a large gap in the Alcester defence to run in from distance.

However, after Alcester held up their opponents over the line, the visitors completed the scoring with a stunning team try ass Burrell applied the finishing touch out wide.

Alcester finish the season at home to Old Leamingtonians on Saturday, April 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Kings Coughton.

Elsewhere, the club’s second XV suffered a narrow 18-10 defeat away at Shottery.

Sidney Tunstall and Elliot Evans scored Alcester’s tries while Alec Aucott impressed throughout with the second XV to finish their campaign against Old Leamingtonians on home turf next weekend.
