ALCESTER RFC battled to a 24-17 victory in a third XI fixture against local rivals Evesham as Jack Green ran in four tries.
The game went ahead following the postponement of both of Evesham’s first and second team fixtures.
This allowed the visitors to bolster their numbers for their third XI.
Both teams featured players from the club’s respective first, second and third XI’s.
Evesham dominated the opening quarter and took the lead when their winger took advantage of a clever cross-field kick to score the game’s first try.
And the visitors then gathered a loose Alcester clearance to score their second try and take a 10-point lead into the break.
Evesham stretched their lead to 17 points after the break as the visitors pounced on a loose ball over the line to dot down.
However, Alcester responded almost immediately as Green crossed for his first try.
And Green dotted down again five minutes later as Steve Downes converted to put the home side firmly back in the contest.
Green completed his hat-trick with 10 minutes left to play while Downes converted to edge Alcester into the lead.
And Green completed the scoring with his fourth try in the final few minutes of the game.
Alcester’s 3rd XV are next in action on March 7. Meanwhile, Alcester’s 1st and 2nd XVs return to league action on Saturday, February 28.
The club’s 1st XI play away at Coventry side Earlsdon while the 2nds entertain high-flyers, Harbury. Kick-off for both games is 2.15pm.
