ALCESTER RFC battled to a hard-fought 10-7 win against Manor Park to secure a sixth successive home victory.
A second-half try from Jamie Harland broke the deadlock while Ed Gough’s successful penalty proved decisive after Manor Park scored a late try at Kings Coughton.
The result means Alcester sit fourth in the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.
Alcester suffered a blow in the opening action of the game with Will Gough forced off after he sustained ankle ligament damage.
Manor Park dominated possession in the first half with neither side able to break the deadlock before the interval.
However, the game burst into life when Harland bounced off a couple of tackles inside his own half and set off on a powerful run to the line as Gough added the extras.
The referee brandished three yellow cards soon after with Alcester reduced to 14 players and Manor Park down by two men.
And E Gough kicked a penalty to stretch the home side’s lead to 10 points with less than a quarter-hour left to play.
However, Manor Park scored a converted try late on as Chris Goode crossed for the visitors to set up a nervy finish.
The home side played the final stages of the match with 14 players after Sam Lear received a yellow card but Alcester held firm to maintain their perfect home record.
Alcester are next in action against Evesham on Saturday, December 20 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Blind Lane.
