RUGBY UNION - Alcester return to winning ways against Manor Park

ALCESTER RFC maintained their perfect home record with a 45-20 win against Manor Park as Josh O’Connor and Lewis Walker both crossed twice.

Antony Cauvin, Jack Green and captain Max Biltcliffe added further tries for Alcester to complete an impressive victory and secure a fourth straight win at home.

The seven-try win means Alcester sit fifth in the Midlands 3 West (South) division as they look to close the gap to leaders Old Leamingtonians.

After last week’s depleted side suffered a heavy defeat at Ledbury – Alcester welcomed back several key players for the clash with Manor Park.

And their quality showed midway through the half when O’Connor produced a trademark dummy kick to fool the visiting defence and waltz through to score with Tom Burgess converting.

However, Manor Park responded with a try of their own when they drove over from a lineout only for Alcester to finish the half strongly and further increase their advantage.

First, Walker outsprinted his opposite number to race away and score underneath the posts before O’Connor dotted down his second try after throwing a brilliant dummy pass.

Despite losing Ben Hope to a yellow card in the closing stages of the half – Alcester led 19-5 at the break.

And the hosts were quick to extend their lead after the interval when Walker used his blistering pace to score his second try of the afternoon in the corner.

They soon had their fifth try when Cauvin was at the bottom of a pile of bodies that crashed over the line before Green finished a fine move to all but seal the victory.

Skipper Biltcliffe completed the scoring for Alcester with Burgess impressing from the kicking tee as he converted five of his side’s seven tries.

However, as Alcester began to tire, the visitors ran in three unanswered tries to claim a bonus point and take some gloss off the scoreline.

Alcester are without a game next week but return to the pitch away at Old Leamingtonians on Saturday, November 20 with both the first and second teams in action.
