RUGBY UNION - Alcester run in nine tries in friendly win against Birmingham Medics

ALCESTER RFC ran in nine tries to secure a comfortable 57-5 win in their annual friendly fixture against Birmingham Medics.

A mixed Alcester team took on the good-hearted visitors a few weeks later than originally planned with the fixture rearranged after it clashed with their cup tie.

And Alcester touched down nine times to the Medics one with players young and old gracing the field – a select number of graduated colts showed their importance since transitioning to senior rugby whilst committee member Dave Marriott was at the opposite end of the spectrum at aged 54.

Alcester scored the opening try when Alex Chiles burst through two tackles to dot down from the opposition 22 before captain Max Biltcliffe dived over for try number two.

However, the Medics hit back with their only score of the match before Robbie Parker made a superb break and offloaded to Sam Fell to cross for Alcester’s third try.

And Alcester added five further tries in the second period with Christian Rushton first to dot down before Ed Gough was gifted a try when a Medics player inadvertently passed the ball to him over the line.

Jamie Clarke, Elliot Evans and Lewis Walker all touched down before the final whistle with Clarke converting his own try and Oli Hayes adding five conversions throughout the game.

Alcester return to league action at home to Southam on Saturday, March 26 with kick-off at 3pm at Alcester Rugby Club.
