ALCESTER RFC triumphed 24-10 against Birmingham Medics in an annual friendly fixture between the two sides.

The Kings Coughton club overcame their university student opponents and named a squad which utilised players from all three of their senior sides.

Tries from Ally Forsyth, Alec Aucott, Josh O’Connor and Toby Birks helped Alcester to victory while Tom Burgess kicked two conversions.

And former Alcester colt, Josh Williams, returned to play for his home club while his cousin featured for Birmingham.

In what has become the only friendly fixture of the season, since the advent of league rugby, outside of 3rd XV games, Alcester overcame their university student opponents, on what the Birmingham side describe their “annual pilgrimage” to Alcester, which always coincides with a Six Nations weekend.

This fixture is a throwback to yesteryear, when fun and frolics off the field were as important as the action on it.

Alcester’s first XV return to action against Bromyard on Saturday, February 14 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Kings Coughton.
