A MASTERFUL kicking display from Archie Beddard helped Redditch RFC to a 19-10 victory against Stourport as the Kingfishers claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Beddard kicked four penalties and a conversion to finish with a 14-point individual haul while Will Heath scored Redditch’s only try at Walshes Meadow.

And the result means Redditch sit fourth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Stourport eventually broke the deadlock with a penalty before a Redditch knock-on close to their own line allowed the home side to cross for a converted try.

The Kingfishers worked tirelessly to reduce the 10-point deficit as Beddard slotted a penalty between the sticks to register the away side’s first points of the match.

And just one minute later, Redditch were level as Heath touched down and Beddard kicked the conversion to send the teams into the break all square.

Redditch upped their game in the second half and took the lead for the first time with another Beddard penalty.

Stourport missed with a penalty attempt of their own soon after before Beddard extended Redditch’s lead with his fourth successful kick of the match.

The Kingfishers held firm to prevent Stourport from registering a single point in the second period before Beddard capped a perfect display with yet another penalty to complete the scoring.

Redditch are next in action away at Five Ways Old Edwardians on Saturday, October 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Ash Lane.
