MARK Burrell scored his second hat-trick of the season as Alcester RFC claimed a bonus point 42-22 victory against Old Coventrians.
Burrell’s treble, his second in the space of three games, helped Alcester maintain their perfect start to the season while Jack Green crossed twice and Alex Chiles also dotted down at Kings Coughton.
The result means Alcester sit top of the Counties 1 Midlands West (South) table.
Alcester saw an early penalty hit the uprights before Burrell scored the game’s first try out wide and Ed Gough kicked the extras.
Old Coventrians responded with a penalty from long range only for Gough to kick another penalty for the home side as the visitors lost two players to the sin-bin following a pair of high tackles.
Burrell completed his hat-trick with a brace of tries before the break as Alcester secured a bonus point when Green dotted down after a fine break from Ieuan Hopkin.
And Gough kicked another penalty to send the hosts into the break with a 27-point lead at the interval.
Green scored his second try after the interval before Old Coventrians responded with a breakaway score only for Chiles to finish in the corner as Alcester scored their sixth try of the game.
The home side had Oscar Holland sent to the sin-bin late on as Old Coventrians scored two tries in the closing stages.
Alcester are next in action against Luctonians II on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at Mortimer Park.
