FORMER Alcester Rugby Club junior player Harry Wright featured for the academy of Premiership side Gloucester.
Wright joined Alcester as an 11-year-old and featured in England’s junior academy as a 16-year-old. He also won Alcester’s under-15 coaches’ player of the season award at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Wright featured for Gloucester’s under-18s in a game against Irish side Leinster.
Alcester RFC’s colts head coach, Gareth Williams, said: “Harry joined Alcester RFC as an 11-year-old and made an immediate impact. When we moved into contact rugby, he continued to develop, and when he and six of his team mates were invited onto the Worcester Warriors player development programme, we felt as a coaching team that there was something special happening.
“Harry grew as a person and a player and then you saw that determination, that difference. When the England Junior Academy picked him up, as a 16-year-old, it was only a matter of time before he was placed in a big club. The entire coaching team is so proud of what he has achieved. There’s more to come for sure.”
Alcester are welcoming new players to join the club ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season.
The club’s senior team achieved their highest-ever league finish last season with Alcester to begin pre-season on August 31.
Alcester then start their Counties 1 Midlands West (South) campaign away at Berkswell and Balsall on September 7 before hosting Bromsgrove II in their first home game on September 14.
And after holding its AGM, Alcester have confirmed Christian Rushton, last season’s players’ player of the year, will captain the first team with Luke Spencer to remain as second team captain.
Nick O’Connor takes over as chairman with Andrew Flynn president and Phil Birks director of rugby.
