JOE Morgan’s late try helped Redditch RFC to a hard-fought 18-10 victory against bottom club Five Ways Old Edwardians.

A strong first-half performance put the Kingfishers in command as Richie Beddard crossed for the game’s opening try either side of a pair of Will Heath penalties.

Five Ways rallied in the second half to reduce the deficit to a single point before Morgan crossed with the final play of the game and Heath added the extras at Bromsgrove Road.

Redditch made a fast start as Heath kicked an early penalty before Beddard guided his forwards and the ball over the line from a driving maul from 15-metres out.

The Kingfishers dominated at the set piece but were unable to add to their total before Heath kicked his second penalty at the end of the first half to send Redditch into the break with an 11-point lead.

An error-strewn second half allowed Five Ways back into the game as the visitors reduced the deficit with a drop goal.

And the Kingfishers then had two players sent to the sin bin as Five Ways made the most of their numerical advantage by scoring a converted try from a cross-field kick.

The home side eventually made sure of the points when Heath made a break and fed Phil Lane who in turn found Morgan who sprinted to the line and finished under the posts.

Redditch are next in action away at Warley on Saturday, Ferbuary 3 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Tat Bank Road.
