REDDITCH RFC began the new season with a 41-29 defeat against Tenbury in an entertaining affair.
The Kingfishers came away with a try bonus point as Joe Purvis, Joe Morgan, Joe Looker, Cal Razzak and Stu Brookes all touched down at Bromsgrove Road.
And the result means Redditch sit seventh in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.
Tenbury scored the game’s first try against the run of play after the Kingfishers saw a couple of chances go begging at the other end of the pitch.
And the visitors crossed again straight from the restart to leave the home side stunned.
Redditch responded with a try from a rolling maul as Purvis scored the club’s first try of the season.
However, Tenbury ran in two more tries before the break to leave Redditch trailing by 19 points.
A try from Morgan, converted by debutant Elliot Williams, kept the home side in the contest shortly before half time.
A dropped ball in the second half allowed Tenbury to pounce and score their fifth try.
However, Looker touched down for Redditch following a quickly-taken penalty before Razzak dotted down the home side’s bonus point try.
Archie Beddard’s conversion took the hosts to within one score of Tenbury only for the visitors to score a long distance try soon after.
Redditch hit back again when Brookes grounded the ball from a driving maul only for one final try from Tenbury to end the game as a contest.
Redditch are next in action against Kidderminster Carolians II on Saturday, September 13 with kick-off at 3pm at Marlpool Lane.
