RUGBY UNION - Redditch continue fine form with Evesham victory

WILL Heath scored two tries as Redditch RFC continued their fine recent form with a 26-5 bonus point victory against Evesham II to secure their third win in four matches.

Heath started and completed the scoring after further tries from Aaron Atkinson and Harvey Habgood sealed another impressive win for the Kingfishers at Bromsgrove Road.

Despite the victory, Redditch remain rooted to the foot of the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table but have a chance to move off the bottom with a win in their final league fixture this weekend.

Redditch were led out by an entourage of mascots as Noah, Caleb, Thea, Ruairi, Joshua, Louis, Jack, Ethan, Kingsley, Josh and Ollie braved the bitter weather.

Heath scored the game’s opening try after the Redditch forwards took the home side deep into Evesham territory before the backs switched the ball from right to left which opened up a gap for the try scorer.

And Atkinson dotted down Redditch’s second try, both of which were converted by Will Spires, after he gathered a delicate chip following strong carries from Matt Allen and Craig Martin.

The try sparked Evesham into life as the visitors were rewarded for some sustained pressure on the Redditch line with their first and only score of the match with a try out wide in the left corner.

Both teams struggled to find their rhythm in the second half as the conditions worsened before Habgood shimmied his way to the line to put Redditch out of sight.

And Heath completed the scoring with his second try of the afternoon to secure a bonus point victory when he touched down following a dominant driving maul.

Redditch finish their league campaign at home to Bishops Castle and Onny Valley on Saturday, March 18 with kick-off at 3pm at Bromsgrove Road.
