REDDITCH RFC cruised to a 41-5 bonus point win against Bishops Castle after running in seven tries to move up to third in the table.
Micky Essex, Leo Fanthome and Stuart Brookes all crossed twice for the Kingfishers after Matt Allen had scored the game’s first try.
The win means Redditch are now third in the Midlands 5 West (South) table as they look to close the gap to league leaders Birmingham and Solihull.
And playing on the sloped spare pitch after the first-team pitch was still out of action following storm Barra it was Redditch who took advantage.
Allen barged through the Bishops Castle defence to score as the Redditch pack began to dominate in the scrum.
And the home side soon had their second try when player of the match Essex bulldozed over for his first score with both tries converted by James Mills.
Cal Razzak was denied a spectacular 60-metre score before the ball was recycled to Essex who touched down for his second try of the match.
The tries kept on coming for Redditch when wing Fanthome crossed after excellent work between the half-back pairing of Mills and Aaron Atkinson.
And the Kingfishers finished the half on the front foot when Brookes picked and drove to send the home side into the break with a 29-0 lead.
Brookes picked up where he left off in the second half to score with another strong drive before Fanthome also touched down his second try after chasing a kick to the corner.
The visitors scored their only try in spectacular fashion when the Bishops Castle centre broke from the halfway line and sprinted away to score.
Redditch Rugby would like to wish all players, officials and supporters a Happy Christmas and prosperous new year.
2021 has been a very challenging year for all involved with the club but the future looks promising for all concerned.
