REDDITCH RFC secured their first win of the New Year with a 22-7 victory away at Five Ways Old Edwardians.

Tries from Mickey Adams, Aaron Atkinson and Matt Allen and seven points from the boot of Will Spires helped the Kingfishers to victory at Ash Lane.

And the result means Redditch sit eighth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

The Kingfishers pushed Five Ways behind their own posts and scored the game’s first try when Adams plucked a wayward pass out of the air and dropped to the ground to score with Spires kicking the conversion.

Redditch lost Cal Razzak to a head injury following a clash of heads with his own player as Five Ways levelled the game with a converted try of their own.

However, Atkinson rounded off a crisp passing move to score Redditch’s second try of the game and send the Kingfishers into the break with a five-point lead.

Spires kicked a penalty to put the visitors two scores ahead before a textbook move at the lineout saw Mitchell Ferris break the line and feed Allen who powered under the posts to leave Spires with a simple conversion.

Redditch are next in action against Birmingham Exiles on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Bromsgrove Road.
