MATT Allen scored two tries as Redditch RFC cruised to a 40-3 bonus point victory against Bishops Castle and Onny Valley.

Kingfishers captain Allen led by example with two tries as Will Heath, Joe Looker, Aaron Atkinson and Rory Allen all touched down in a comfortable win at Bromsgrove Road.

And the result means Redditch sit seventh in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

Redditch skipper Allen scored the game’s first try from a driving maul with his powerful runs instrumental in putting the home side on the front foot throughout.

And Redditch extended their lead when Spires produced a delicate chip ahead and gathered his own kick before passing to Tom Lipscomb who in turn found Will Heath to score under the posts with the former converting.

Bishops Castle registered their only points of the match with a penalty shortly after before Looker weaved his way to the line and Allen scored his second try from a five-metre scrum.

And Spires converted both tries to give the Kingfishers a healthy 26-3 lead at the break.

Replacements and injuries disrupted the flow of the game in the second half before a sweeping move saw the ball pass through several hands and ended with Atkinson sprinting down the wing and finishing under the posts.

The Kingfishers completed the scoring after prop Mickey Adams produced a sublime 50/22 kick and M. Allen took a quick lineout as R. Allen dotted down his first try for the club.

Redditch are next in action away at Stourport on Saturday, October 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Walshes Meadow.

Additionally, the club’s second XV suffered a 64-14 defeat against Old Yardleians development squad in their first outing of the season.
