RUGBY UNION - Redditch RFC edged out in friendly against Dudley Kingswinford

REDDITCH RFC were beaten 24-19 in a friendly against Dudley Kingswinford as the Kingfishers gave an opportunity to some of their fringe players.

The visitors took an A team to Dudley for a game under the lights with fringe players and second teamers given a chance to impress.

Dudley made a quick start and scored an early converted try as Redditch began to apply themselves with a period of pressure in the opposition half.

Scrum half Will Heath was instrumental in pushing his pack forward whilst his pinpoint kicking gave his side some territory to work in.

And that pressure was turned into points when Jon Beale chased his own kick to score after Dudley dropped a pass.

Redditch went into the break with a 12-7 lead when Will Baillon scrambled over the line after a scrappy period of play.

And the Kingfishers stretched their lead minutes after the restart when Matt Allen scored underneath the posts off the back of a trademark jinking run from Baillon.

However, the game had taken its toll on Redditch who were forced to use players out of position which allowed Dudley to score two tries to bring the game level at 19-19 heading into the closing stages.

And the home side clinched the win with five minutes left to play as Redditch were unable to claw their way back into the game.

Redditch are next in action away at Greyhound on Saturday, January 29 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Hereford City Sports Club.
