REDDITCH RFC suffered a heavy 50-5 defeat on the road at promotion-chasing Evesham II.

The Kingfishers scored their only try courtesy of Joe Morgan as promotion contenders Evesham proved too strong for the visitors at Blind Lane.

The result means Redditch sit ninth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

Evesham were able to field a stronger side with the rearranged fixture falling on a free weekend for the club’s first team.

The home side ran in four first half tries to secure a bonus point the first of which saw Evesham’s inside centre slice through Redditch’s defensive line.

However, Redditch responded immediately after winning a ruck on halfway as James Mills chipped ahead and Morgan outpaced his man to touch down.

Despite plenty of graft from the Kingfishers, three further Evesham tries before the break took the game out of Redditch’s reach.

Redditch lost captain Will Spires after the interval with hooker Loran Abbots also forced off with injury.

Despite Aaron Atkinson making a couple of breaks for the visitors, Redditch were unable to turn their pressure into points.

And Evesham ran in four second-half tries to claim an eight-try success against the Kingfishers.

Redditch are next in action against Bishops Castle and Onny Valley on Saturday, February 15 at Love Lane.
