REDDITCH RFC suffered a 45-22 defeat against Birmingham Exiles in their first home game of the New Year.
The Kingfishers came away from the fixture with a try bonus point courtesy of scores from Aaron Atkinson, Joe Purvis, Mickey Adams and Joe Morgan at Bromsgrove Road.
And the result means Redditch sit eighth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.
The visitors scored the game’s first try after some sustained pressure on the Redditch line as the Exiles utilised their bigger pack to great effect.
And a series of penalties allowed Birmingham to take a commanding 21-point lead.
However, Redditch cut the deficit before half time when Adams fed Mike Allen who in-turn found Atkinson as the hooker sprinted 40-metres to the line to dot down.
And the home side struck again after the interval as a catch and drive move surprised the Exiles pack and Purvis finished off the drive with a well-taken score.
However, Birmingham responded with three unanswered tries to take the game away from the Kingfishers.
Redditch kept themselves in the contest as Adams forced his way over the line following a drive at a lineout.
And Morgan then sprinted away from the Exiles defence to score the home side’s bonus point try as Will Spires kicked the extras.
Birmingham crossed for a late try to end the home side’s hopes of producing a dramatic fightback.
Redditch are next in action against Evesham II on Saturday, February 8 at Blind Lane.
