REDDITCH RFC claimed a losing bonus point in a valiant 29-22 defeat against league leaders Droitwich II in their final game of the year.
Tries from Mikey Adams, Cal Razzak and Joe Morgan kept the Kingfishers on level terms with Droitwich before the visitors won the game late on at Bromsgrove Road.
The result means Redditch sit eighth in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.
Droitwich ran in two unconverted tries in the early exchanges as the league leaders struck on either wing.
However, a Will Spires penalty reduced the deficit before Adams forced his way over the line after a fine break from Matt Allen and Spires added the extras.
The visitors responded straight from the restart as Droitwich reclaimed the lead but were once again unable to add the extras.
Redditch levelled the game before half time as Razzak dotted down after good work from the forwards who dominated at the set-piece.
Droitwich took the lead for a third time after the break from a straight run at the Redditch line.
However, the Kingfishers drew level once again as Morgan scored the home side’s third try and Spires converted.
Despite the home side’s best efforts, Droitwich eventually scored the game’s decisive try as the Kingfishers just fell short in their attempts to snatch a draw at the death.
Redditch are next in action against Evesham II on Saturday, January 4 at Blind Lane.
