RUGBY UNION - Redditch win low-scoring affair against Bishops Castle

REDDITCH RFC triumphed 10-7 in a low-scoring affair against Bishops Castle to secure their first away win since November.

Connor Morris scored Redditch’s only try in the second half with Will Spires adding five points from the kicking tee as the latter’s first-half penalty proved decisive.

And the result means Redditch have secured a sixth place finish in the Midlands 5 West (South) table with one match left to play.

Both teams struggled for rhythm throughout in Shropshire as James Mills and Spires kept the home time pinned back in their own half.

And the only score of the first half came from the boot of Spires after he kicked a penalty following a high tackle.

The second half was played in a similar vein as both teams made poor decision on the ball before a superb break from Jon Beale set Morris on his way for a free run to the line with Spires converting.

Bishops Castle finally troubled the scoreboard late on with a converted try but Redditch stood firm and even looked more likely to strike again as the game was brought to a close.

Redditch’s final league game of the season takes place against Bloxwich on Saturday, April 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Redditch Rugby Club.
