REDDITCH RFC secured back-to-back home wins for the first time this season with a 29-17 bonus point victory against fourth-placed Malvern II.

Mike Allen, Aaron Atkinson, Will Heath, Phil Lane and AJ Bennett all crossed for the Kingfishers as Redditch continued their resurgence at Bromsgrove Road.

The result means Redditch remain 10th in the Counties 4 Midlands West (South) table.

Redditch were led out by mascots Louis and Ruairi as the club tries to better integrate its junior and senior sections.

And a dominant first half performance was the platform for a convincing Redditch victory as Joe Purvis was held up over the line before slick hands made room for Allen to score the game’s first try.

Redditch piled on the pressure as the pack drove forward at every opportunity and cleared the way for Will Spires to delicately chip the ball through to Atkinson to score with the former converting.

The home side were dominant in the scrum and scored their third try when Heath weaved his way past several tackles to score as Spires kicked the conversion.

And Redditch scored their bonus point try with the final play of the half as Heath made good ground before the ball made its way to Allen who fed Lane to dot down in the corner as the Kingfishers went into the break with a 24-point lead.

Malvern finally troubled the scoreboard in the second period as some sloppy tackles allowed the visitors to score their first try.

And Malvern struck again soon after after some sustained pressure on the Redditch line before Spires’ penalty attempt drifted just wide of the posts and the visitors scored their third try to close the gap to seven points.

However, Redditch slowly regained control and scrum half Bennett sniped over from close range to score the game’s final try and seal the points.

Redditch are next in action at home to Evesham II on Saturday, March 11 with kick-off at 3pm at Bromsgrove Road.
