Shirt deal and victory in a week to savour

REDDITCH Ladies celebrated their new shirt deal with a 3-0 home victory over Bournville which lifted the Kingfishers off the foot of the Worcestershire League Division One table and into seventh place.

Sponsorship for the new kit has been provided by Tardebigge firm Bodycares which specialises in deep tissue massage with rehabilitation, Swedish and hot stone massage.

Redditch showed plenty of grit and determination to secure their second win of the campaign against a Bournville side which played with speed and strength at every opportunity.

However, Redditch’s defence were able to maintain their composure as Faye Commander and Jodie Skinner impressed at the back and allowed the midfield to push forward with regularity.

Georgina Willmott fired Redditch ahead with a firm strike into the bottom-right corner and further pressure was rewarded with two goals from Ruth Waite following penalty corner rebounds.

Leanne Styzaker was named player of the match for her persistent fighting spirit and skilful passing throughout the game.

Redditch Ladies have the chance to build on this win when they visit eighth-placed Harborne 4ths on Saturday.

REDDITCH men face another tough challenge on Saturday when they take on Stourport 2nds in the West Midlands Premier Division.

Both teams achieved promotion from Division One last season and have enjoyed a competitive campaign in this division, with Redditch currently third – a point behind second-placed Barford Tigers 2nds – and Stourport fifth.

It has been a tough run of fixtures for Redditch, who fought back from 2-0 down with five minutes remaining to draw 2-2 with Barford Tigers 2nds before Christmas and then powered to a 3-2 half-time lead against table-topping Cannock before eventually suffering a 5-3 defeat.

Redditch then put in a patient and spirited performance to beat Market Drayton 1-0 before turning on the style to convincingly defeat Sutton Coldfield 2nds 4-0.

Most recently on Saturday the Kingfishers were unfortunate to not come away with a point at Olton & West Warwicks 3rds who edged to a 3-2 win.

Jacob Beard is the team’s top scorer with 15 goals, ahead of Andy Billingham with four and Joel Haslam, Jack Gwyer and Harry Williams with three each.
