C AND G Show inflicted a first defeat of the season on Engineers in the latest round of action in the Redditch Skittles League.

Just one pin separated the teams at the end of the game but after leg two, C and G Show had opened up a healthy 18-pin lead and looked likely to win by a much bigger margin.

However, Engineers reduced the deficit to 10 pins after leg three only to drift off the pace by a further two pins at the end of leg four.

C and G Show then made their lowest leg score of the night to leave Engineers needing 69 pins for an unlikely win – which they nearly made, falling short by a single pin.

For the winners, Dave Orton and Paul Hollis made 36 pins each while for Engineers, Pete Clewlow made 37 (including 13 stack) and Ian Greenway 36.

Defeat for Engineers allowed Lodge Farmers to move top the league table following a comfortable win over Bernie’s Bolts.

Lodge Farmers raced into a 37-pin lead after the first two legs but were unable to add to that lead in legs three and four despite good scores as Bernie’s Bolts recovered well to match their opponents pin for pin and then win leg five.

And Rachel Morris scored 40 for Lodge Farmers whilst Glyn Morley added 37. Good scores for Bernie’s Bolts were made by Craig McSweeney with 38 and 35 each from Paul Blayney, on debut, and Rob Hackles.

The Borough were denied their first win of the season by just two pins against Nomads as the basement side continue to improve.

And the Borough fell eight pins behind after leg one but turned the game around over the next three legs to lead by three pins going into the last leg.

They bowled well in the last leg to leave Nomads needing a tricky 69 pins to win only for anchor man and skipper, Alan Cummings, to take nine pins with his final bowl to seal a narrow victory for the latter side.

James Marshal and Eddie Upright scored 38 and 35 respectively for Nomads whilst The Borough’s skipper, Sarah Edwards, returned an excellent 41 pins (including 14 stack) and had good support from Steve Court with 35.
