ENGINEERS closed the gap at the top of the Redditch Skittles League table to six points with leaders Lodge Farmers not in action.
The title challengers made the most of their game in-hand by taking a near maximum points haul when beating Nomads.
Nomads made a bright start with a 57-pin leg only for Engineers to respond with a score of 74 pins to take a 17-pin lead.
Engineers then scored 68 pins in the second leg as Nomads hit back with a 68-pin leg of their own before scoring 67 in leg three.
However, Engineers won the leg with a score of 72 pins before taking the following leg by three pins and claimed the final leg by 16 pins.
For Engineers, Maurice Wroe (47, 14 and 12 stacks), Andy Clewlow (43, 14 and 10 stacks) and Mark Ganderton (42, 12 stack) top scored.
And for Nomads, James Marshall (39), Charlie Teasdale (36) and Dave Maule (32) impressed.
In the league’s other game, Jumbo Jets came from behind to beat the Borough as the fourth leg proved decisive.
The Borough led by seven pins at the end of leg one and increased their lead to nine pins after leg two as Jumbo Jets reduced the deficit by a single pin after winning leg three.
However, The Borough managed just 47 pins in leg four as Jumbo Jets scored 71 to take a commanding 16-pin lead.
Jumbo Jets bowled first in the final leg and left The Borough needing 71 pins to win the game as the latter side won the leg but failed to score the required number of pins required for victory.
For Jumbo Jets, Mick Stanton (39, 12 stack), Darren Summers (34) and Bob Haycock (32) top scored while Julian Workman (35), Tom Baker (33) and Sarah Edwards (32) all impressed for The Borough.
