ENGINEERS consolidated top spot in the Redditch Skittles League with victory against Jumbo Jet Set in their latest outing.
With two games left to play, Engineers look set to deny closest challengers Lodge Farmers a first league title.
Engineers were always on top against Jumbo Jet Set who claimed a consolation point by taking the fifth and final leg.
The league leaders comfortably won each of the first four legs to take a commanding 27-pin lead.
For Engineers, Rob Baker (39, 10 stack) and Mark Ganderton and Graham Hingley (both 38) top scored with Steve Wardle (40, 13 stack), Dave Marriott (37) and Dan Hill (36, 13 stack) on form for the Jets.
The Borough claimed an unexpected victory against Bernie’s Bolts after winning each of the first two legs to take an 11-pin lead.
Bernie’s Bolts won legs three and four to reduce the deficit to seven pins but were unable to score the 68 pins required in the final leg as the Borough claimed an impressive win.
For the Borough, Sarah Edwards (36, 13 stack), Tom Baker (36) and Steve Court (33) top scored while Craig McSweeney (36), Lewis McSweeney (34) and John McSweeney (31) all impressed for the Bolts.
Lastly, Lodge Farmers returned to form but failed to take maximum points and close the gap at the top in their win against Nomads.
Farmers won the first two legs to take a 15-pin lead only for Nomads to win the next couple of legs and reduce the deficit to 10 pins.
However, a modest last leg score left Farmers needing just 51 pins to win the match and a score of 76 proved more than enough to claim the points.
For Farmers, Glyn Morley (45, 13 stack), Andy Rumble (42) and Frank Morris (36) top scored while Jim Child (38) and Mac Eaton and Alan Cummings (both 35) impressed for Nomads.
