DEFENDING champions Engineers made a blistering start to the new Redditch Skittles League season.
Engineers knocked down 373 pins – the league’s highest total in a number of years – in a dominant victory against Jumbo Jet Set.
Leading the way for Engineers were Jo Kelso (44, 15 stack), Maurice Wroe (44, 14 stack) and Craig Sears (40, 16 stack).
Jumbo Jet Set scored a good enough total to win the match and won the first leg as Dave Marriott (41, 12 stack), Len Quartly (36), Mike Smeed (34, 11 stack) and Mick Stanton (34) top scored.
Elsewhere, current league leaders Bernie’s Bolts completed a straightforward win against Nomads.
Craig McSweeney (36), Mark Andrews and Dan Lowe (both 35) top scored for Bolts while Alan Cummings (40, 13 stack), Jordan Bunn (36, 13 stack), James Marshall (35, 11 stack) and Andrew Coombes (35) impressed for Nomads.
And Bolts then recovered from a two-leg deficit to beat The Borough as McSweeney (40, 13 stack) top scored again while Jess Andrews (37) and Dan Goodman (37, 17 stack) scored well.
For the Borough, who were a player short, Julian Workman (37, 11 stack), Steve Court (35) and Tom Baker (33, 14 stack) all impressed.
The Borough also lost their opening match in a tight game against last season’s runners-up Lodge Farmers.
Baker (36) and Court (33) impressed again while Kim Workman and Scott Few (both 32) also scored well.
For Farmers, Glyn Morley (38, 11 stack) and Sue Morris and Rachel Morris (both 34) guided Lodge to victory.
And Morley (39, 15 stack) starred again as Farmers comfortably beat Nomads while Frank Morris (37) and Lynne Long (35) chipped in with useful contributions.
For Nomads, Cummings (34), Graham Hanley (33) and Eddie Upright and David Maule (both 31) top scored.
