ENGINEERS can afford to lose their last game of the season so long as they pick up more than four points from their final fixture to win the Redditch Skittles League title.
The title favourites were always ahead in their penultimate match against The Borough, winning the first three legs to take an unassailable 37-pin lead.
However, the Borough produced the highest leg score of the game in leg four and took the final leg when Engineers faltered.
For Engineers, Andy Clewlow (39) and Craig Sears and Mark Ganderton (both 38) top scored for the victors while Kim Workman (37, 15 stack), Alex Taylor (36) and Sarah Edwards (35) impressed for the Borough.
Current league leaders Lodge Farmers had to settle for nine points from their game against C and G Show to take the title race to the final match of the season.
C and G Show took the last leg with the highest leg score of the game after Farmers built a steady lead over the course of the other legs off the back of good scores from Rachel Morris (36), Glyn Morley (35) and Jamie McGill (34).
For C and G Show, Aaron Evans (46, 14 and 13 stacks), Angela Guest (36) and Dave Charlesworth (30) top scored.
Jumbo Jet Set ended the season with a narrow win against Nomads after taking a six-pin lead at the end of the first two legs.
Nomads responded by winning leg three to lead by a single pin only for Jumbo Jets to reclaim the lead by five pins after leg four.
Jumbo Jets needed 60 pins for victory in the last leg and recovered from an indifferent start to take the leg and win the game.
For Jumbo Jets, Darren Summers (37, 14 stack), Dennis Compton (35) and Rob Quartly, Dave Marriott and Mick Stanton (all 32) top scored while Alan Cummings (44, 13 stack), Jim Child (34) and Geoff Loat (32) impressed for Nomads.
