ENGINEERS suffered a surprise defeat against The Borough in the latest round of matches in the Redditch Skittles League.
The Borough started well and opened up an 11-pin lead after the first leg.
Leg two ended in a tie before the Borough extended their lead to 20 pins at the end of leg three.
Engineers won leg four but still trailed by 14 pins and a good last leg score of 65 by the Borough left Engineers needing 80 to win the game.
However, despite managing 71 pins, the highest leg score of the game, Engineers ultimately fell short of the required total.
For the Borough, Julian Workman (46, 17 stack), Ian Foreman (41) and Charlie Few (36) top scored.
For Engineers, Brandon Kelso (40), Mark Ganderton (38) and Joe Kelso (36) all impressed.
In the only other game, Jumbo Jet Set earned their first win of the season against Bernie’s Bolts.
The Bolts led by two pins after the first leg but trailed by two pins at the end of the second leg.
Jumbo Jets increased their lead to nine pins in leg three which the Bolts reduced to seven pins in leg four.
The Jets left the Bolts needing 75 pins for victory which the latter side could not achieve.
For Jumbo Jets, Darren Summers (42, 12 stack), Mike Smeed (39, 12 stack twice) and Mick Stanton (39) top scored.
For Bernie’s Bolts, Paul Blayney (43, 13 stack), Lewis McSweeney (36) and Craig McSweeney (33) all impressed.
