ENGINEERS opened up a six-point gap at the top of the Redditch Skittles League table with victory against title rivals Lodge Farmers.

There was little to choose between the teams in four of the five legs, the biggest winning margin being three pins, as the teams won two legs apiece.

Leg two proved Lodge Farmers undoing as Engineers punished their opponents below par score of 59 with 75 in reply.

That handed Engineers a 15-pin lead as the victors matched Farmers in the remaining legs to move six points clear at the top of the table.

For Engineers, Luke Saunders and Brandon Kelso (both 38) and Craig Sears (37) top scored and for Lodge Farmers, Rachel Morris (36), Glyn Morley (35) and Tim Jones (34) impressed.

Jumbo Jets leapfrogged Bernie’s Bolts with the latter side unable to capitalise on their win against Lodge Farmers the previous week.

Jets scored their highest total of the season against Bolts to secure a fourth consecutive win and led by eight pins after the first leg.

And Jets stretched their lead to 34 pins after also winning each of the next three legs as the Bolts claimed the final leg to claim a consolation point.

For Jumbo Jets, Rob Quartly (40, 13 stack), Darren Summers (39, 13 stack) and Liz Rowberry (36) top scored while Paul Blayney (38), Andy Gill-Smith (35) and Dan Goodman and Craig McSweeney (both 33) impressed for Bolts.

Nomads returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory against C and G Show as both teams scored 58 pins in the opening leg.

However, Nomads took legs two and three by a narrow margin to lead by eight pins and made 72 pins in leg four to better C and G Show’s score of 63.

A last leg score for Nomads of 68 left C and G Show needing 86 pins to win which proved out of the latter side’s reach.

For Nomads, Mac Eaton (41), Alan Cummings (38) and Andrew Coombes (35) top scored while Dave Orton (33) and Angela Guest and Aaron Evans (both 32) impressed for C and G Show.
