FATHER and son duo Len and Rob Quartly claimed the Redditch Skittles League doubles title.

Len and Rob, who both for Jumbo Jet Set, came out on top out of 27 pairs who entered the competition.

From 27 initial pairings in the first round, 12 advanced to two semi-final groups of six pairs with the top two pairs in each group then qualifying for the final.

In the first semi-final, The Borough’s own father and son combination of Scott and Charlie Few scored 88 pins to qualify for the final.

They were joined by Len and Rob Quartly who scored 79 pins to edge out Bernie’s Bolts pair Andy Gill-Smith and Paul Blayney by three pins.

The other semi-final saw Jumbo Jet Set pair Dennis Compton and Mick Stanton dominate as they racked up 95 pins.

And Keith Edwards and Neil Jay from C and G Show also impressed to score 84 pins en route to the final.

In the final, Edwards and Jay raced into a seven-pin lead after the first leg after the latter player produced a 15 stack.

However, Rob Quartly’s 13 stack in leg two cut the lead to a single pin with Compton and Stanton only three pins further adrift.

Edwards and Jay increased their lead by a single pin in leg three with Compton and Stanton and also Scott and Charlie Few losing ground.

The lead changed hands in leg four as Len and Rob Quartly took a two-pin advantage over Edwards and Jay.

In a final leg shootout, Edwards and Jay scored 12 pins to leave Len and Rob Quartly needing 11 to secure the title.

And the duo managed a score of 15 pins to claim the Redditch Skittles League doubles title.
