SKITTLES - Form book ripped up as top three all taste defeat

THE form book was ripped up in the latest round of Redditch Skittles League matches as the top three teams all tasted defeat.

Lodge Farmers lost their previously unbeaten record against Nomads whilst second-placed Egnineers were beaten by Engineers and third-placed Bernie’s Bolts were ousted by The Borough.

Nomads were in scintillating form as Mac Eaton scored 42 (including 15 stack) and Eddie Upright scored 39 (13 stack) to end Lodge Farmers’ eight-game winning run with a 351-345 victory.

And Nomads amassed the highest leg score of the season with 85 in the first leg to take an 11-pin lead as Lodge Farmers fell just short despite either sharing or winning the remaining four legs as Frank Morris and Glyn Morley both scored 40.

However, Engineers were unable to capitalise on Lodge’s slip up as they were beaten 345-307 by Jumbo Jets as Dan Hill scored 40 and Rob Quartly scored 38 (10 stack) for the victors.

Jets knocked over 79 pins in the first leg to lead by nine and eventually secured a comfortable win to inflict just a second defeat of the season on Engineers who saw Mark Ganderton top score with 37 whilst Pete and Andy Clewlow both scored 35.

The Borough continued their recent resurgence with a 309-287 win against Bernie’s Bolts to move off the bottom of the table.

Borough opened up a 10-pin lead after the first leg and extended that to 19 at the end of the third leg as Scott and Charlie Few scored 37 and 34 respectively for the winners whilst Craig Sweeney scored 36 and Rob Hackles 33 for Bolts.

Lastly, C and G Show claimed a narrow 296-290 six-pin win against Swingers despite trailing by nine pins at the end of the first leg.

The victors turned that deficit into a 16-pin lead at the end of leg three and set Swingers 76 to win the game who fell just short in reply.

C and G Show’s best bowlers were Rich Fisher and Aaron Evans who scored 36 apiece whilst Martin Brennan made 35 for Swingers as John Clifton and Rob Baker scored 32 each.
