SKITTLES - Lodge Farmers win top-of-the-table clash in Redditch Skittles League

LODGE Farmers leapfrogged Engineers to lead the Redditch Skittles League standings after claiming victory in a top-of-the-table clash.

Engineers led by eight pins at the end of leg one as Mark Ganderton’s 15-stack put them firmly in command.

However, Lodge Farmers responded over the next three legs and, despite posting their worst score of the game in the final leg, left Engineers needing 74 pins which they were unable to achieve.

For Lodge Farmers, Jamie McGill (40), Richard Long (36) and Glyn Morley (35) top scored with Ganderton (43), Ian Greenway (37) and Luke Saunders and Andy Clewlow (both 33) on form for Engineers.

At the other end of the table, Nomads beat bottom team C and G Show after sharing the first leg before pulling clear over the remaining legs to leave their opponents needing a daunting 76 pins to win.

C and G Show were always behind in their chase and eventually fell well short of the required total to remain bottom of the table.

For Nomads, Mac Eaton (37, 12 stack), Alan Cummings (37) and James Marshal (36) top scored while Rich Fisher (37), Paul Hollis (34) and Angela Guest, Aaron Evans and Adam Feeney (all 33) impressed for C and G Show.

Lastly, Bernie’s Bolts overcame Jumbo Jet Set to exact revenge for their game at the start of the season.

The Jets raced into an 11-pin lead at the end of leg two only for Bolts to stay in touching distance and trail by five pins ahead of the final leg.

A modest last leg score from Jets allowed Bolts to score the 68 pins required and win the game as Jim Williamson’s 12-stack set them on their way to victory.

For Bolts, Andy Gill-Smith (38), Paul Blayney (37) and Williamson (36) top scored with Len Quartly (42, 13 stack) and Rob Quartly and Darren Summers (both 37) on form for Jets.
