LILY Orton was the only lady to survive the cut in the first round of the Redditch Skittles League’s singles competition.

Some 56 players entered the tournament and were drawn into four groups of 14 with the top six in each group to advance to the second round.

And Orton, from C and G Show, topped grouped one as she scored 30 over four legs and was joined in the second round by Julian Workman (28, The Borough), Cody Baker (27, Swingers), John McSweeney 27, Mark Andrews 27 and Dan Goodman 26 (all Bernie’s Bolts).

Engineers players dominated group two as former two-time winner Ian Greenway (32) showed his class to top the group whilst Andy Clewlow and Darren Saunders (both 27), Maurice Wroe (26), George Few (26, The Borough) and Dennis Compton (26, Jumbo Jets) all qualified for the second round.

And three Jumbo Jets players qualified from group three as Len Quartly (34, including 12 stack), inaugural singles champion Mick Stanton (30) and defending champion Rob Quartly (29) eased through and were joined in the next round by Rich Fisher (29, 11 stack, C and G Show), James Marshal (28, Nomads) and Rob Hackles (27, Bernie’s Bolts).

In group four, three-time winner Alan Cummings (27, Nomads) and Tim Jones (27, Lodge Farmers) made it through to round two along with Aaron Evans (27, C and G Show).

Former champion Rob Baker (31, 11 stack) topped the group whilst Scott Few (29, The Borough) and Craig McSweeney (28, Bernie’s Bolts) also qualified for the second round.
