REDDITCH Renegades completed an unbeaten tour of North Devon to retain their title for the third year in a row.

The Redditch Skittles League’s representative team, made up of 10 players, enjoyed further success on the South Coast.

The Renegades began the tour with a pair of friendly matches in Ilfracombe.

Renegades beat Sandpipers 269-267 as Craig Sears (51, 16 stack) and Len Quartly (46) both impressed.

And the Redditch side then won 294-272 against Hele Bay Inn as Glyn Morley (54) produced two 12 stacks and Rob Quartly (54) a 15 stack.

The main tournament in Bideford featured 16 teams in groups of four with only the group winners progressing to the final played over two alleys.

Renegades made a flying start to lead by 39 pins after the first of five legs against Headbangers from Barry as the Redditch side went on to triumph 450-365.

Superb bowling from Tim Jones (60, 18, 15 and 13 stacks), Sears (55, 15 stack) and Andy Clewlow (50, 15 stack) helped Renegades to a comfortable win.

The Renegades then took on Ely-based side the Beep Beeps with the Redditch team a couple of pins ahead at the end of the first leg.

Renegades pulled clear over the remaining legs to win 459-436 as R Quartly (58, 18 and 13 stacks), Morley (54, 17 and 13 stacks) and Sears (52, 16 and 11 stacks) top scored.

The Renegades faced Caerphilly Knights in a group decider after both teams won their opening two matches.

And, after winning the first leg by four pins, the Renegades scored well over the next four legs to win 429-394.

Jones (55, 14 stack) impressed again while Alan Cummings (54, 15 and 12 stacks) also passed the 50-pin mark.

And Mark Ganderton showed consistency throughout as he bowled stacks in all three group matches.

In the final, the Renegades bowled in the same alley as Redundants from Worcester.

The Redditch side quickly moved 33 pins clear of Redundants after two legs but trailed the Pinhitters from Hereford, bowling in the other alley, by two pins.

Pinhitters finished on 400 pins with Redundants on 399 only for the Renegades to score well over the final three legs to end on a total of 453 pins to lift the trophy.

Captain Clewlow (55, 16 and 15 stacks) led the way while Geoff Loat (52, 17 and 15 stacks) and Mac Eaton (51, 15 and 14 stacks) also impressed.
