SWINGERS and newcomers Bernie’s Bolts are the surprise early leaders in the Redditch Skittles League after two rounds of matches.
Swingers took joint top spot with a win over The Borough and produced the season’s highest team total so far having opened up a 20-pin lead after the second leg.
The Borough otherwise ran their opponents very close over the other four legs and were disappointed not to earn more bonus leg points from the game.
Swingers Rob Baker had a 17 stack in a total of 43, the highest individual score to date, and was backed up by Jim Child with 36. There were 36 pins each for Julian Workman and Charlie Few who top scored for The Borough.
Newcomers Bernie’s Bolts joined Swingers at the top with a surprise win over Jumbo Jet Set.
Bernie’s Bolts took the first three legs for a 19-pin lead before Jumbo Jets belatedly fought back to win the last two legs.
However, it was not enough for the game as Bernie’s Bolts held on to win when anchor man Mark Andrews easily scored the winning pins.
Andrews finished with 37 pins but top scorer was Jess Andrews with 38 (including 15 stack). There were stacks of 13 each for Jumbo Jet Sets’ Mick Stanton and Darren Summers in totals of 38 and 35 respectively.
Lastly, there was a close game between Nomads and C and G Show who had each won two legs and were level on pins going into the last leg.
Nomads then posted a modest 56 which briefly looked enough, only for C and G Show’s last four bowlers to score well and secure victory.
Aaron Evans for the winners made 41 and teammate Dave Orton chipped in with 35. Nomads best scorers were Alan Spreckley and Alan Cummings with 34 apiece.
