The beautiful stately home and its grounds provided a fine setting for a superb cross country race on Saturday and Smith claimed the highest placed finish of the Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club runners who had qualified to represent the county.

Bryn Turner finished 90th in the same race as Smith as the cross country season drew to a close with this national event.

Josh Robins was 39th in the 3km U13 boys’ race and in the girls’ event over the same distance Natalie Hatfield was 77th, Sophie Groom 200th and Esme Ranger 239th.

The U17 women raced over a 5km course and Alice Battey and Ellie Moss finished 216th and 255th respectively.

The men’s event for the same age group was held over 6km and saw Gareth Richardson finish 166th and Tom Deykin 247th.

International runner Jessica Judd of Chelmsford won the 8km senior women’s race in which B&R’s Tamara Freeman finished 178th.

THE BATH Half Marathon took place on Sunday on a two-lap course which started and finished in the centre of the city and attracted a big field of runners.

Former B&R athlete Simon Lanckham enjoyed a superb run as he finished 48th with a personal best time.

B&R’s Mark Appleton was 345th and doing the club proud was Sally Hogan who finished 393rd in her first half marathon. She was 32nd lady and 15th senior lady.

Alan Stanley finished 3,345th as 12,500 runners completed the course.

The next big meeting is the Midland Men’s 12-stage and Women’s 6-stage Road Relays which take place on Saturday, March 25 at Sutton Park.
