REDDITCH Swimming Club’s junior swimmers defied the odds to win the inaugural SwimGainz Junior Development League.
An outstanding team performance in the final saw Redditch beat seven other clubs to the title despite qualifying for the showpiece in eighth place.
Redditch scored an impressive 355 points to win the A final to the delight of the club’s coaches, swimmers and supporters at the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry.
Redditch SC head coach, Jon Fletcher, said: “The final was such an exciting event. Everyone who put a Redditch hat on, for this competition, gave everything they had.
“I’m very proud of the club for winning it and for the way they won it. Well done everyone.”
Team coach, Adrian Rodd, added: “It was superb to see the swimmers grow in confidence and speed, round on round, culminating with an excellent team performance in the final.
“The team supported and encouraged each other throughout the whole gala and fully deserved the reward of winning the final.
“I am massively proud of each and every swimmer who has competed in the preliminary rounds and the final.”
Redditch took part in three preliminary gala’s to earn their place in the A final as they secured the eighth and last spot available.
However, the club’s swimmers showed their class to upstage Worcester and Evesham Blue who took silver and bronze respectively on finals day.
Teams from Halesowen, Pershore, Cheltenham SWPC, Bromsgrove and Stourbridge made up the remainder of the finalists.
