SWIMMING - Redditch SC swimmers claim impressive medal haul at Swim Wales Winter Championships

REDDITCH Swimming Club claimed a superb haul of medals at the Swim Wales Winter Championships last month which was held over three days at the Welsh National Pool in Swansea.

The team of Dylan Ogden, who trains exclusively with his home club of Redditch, Aimee Monks, Harry Chandler, Josie James and Aled Lee, who are Royal Wolverhampton School members, have dual membership with Redditch SC.

And the star of the show for Redditch was Chandler who won gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events, silver in the 100m and 200m freestyle races and bronze in the 50m and 400m freestyle in the boys 13 to 14 years category.

Redditch’s medal haul was added to as Monks won gold in the 200m freestyle as well as silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle to secure an impressive individual medal haul in the 17 years and over category.

There was also a bronze medal for Lee in the 50m breaststroke boys 13 to 14 years age group to round off an excellent overall display from Redditch’s swimmers.

Under the spotlight at such a prestigious event, there were strong swims by all of the swimmers associated with Redditch SC, whilst all swimmers achieved personal best performances in the majority of the events they entered.

Redditch SC Head Coach Jon Fletcher said: “A number of our swimmers, both dual club swimmers and our own competed.

“Dylan Ogden swum in five events and achieved five personal best times. A fantastic weekend for Dylan and proof that consistent hard work pays off.

“It was also so pleasing to see Aimee, Harry, Aled and Josie swim so well under the Royal Wolverhampton School banner.

“These swimmers dual club with Redditch so are very much part of our family and it was brilliant to see them achieve great swims and Aimee and Harry pick up numerous titles between them.

“Well done everyone. From here we go to Cardiff in early January to get some valuable long course (50m pool) race experience before heading into a busy County Championships campaign.”
