REDDITCH swimmer Paul Wilkes has been awarded the Worcester County Swimming Association Founder’s Prize for a third time.
The 38-year-old was previously awarded the honour in 2011 and 2017 and was presented with the award for a third time following an outstanding 2022 season.
Wilkes became European champion in the 200m butterfly event at the LEN European Aquatics Masters Championships at the Stadio Olimpico del Nuoto in Rome in September last year.
Redditch Swimming Club chairperson, Malcolm Ross said: “Redditch SC are extremely proud to have a European champion as their club captain and consider that he is a worthy winner of the Founders Prize of 2022.”
The Founder’s Prize was initiated in the will of Edgar Henry Summers who was the founder and president of the Worcester County Swimming Association from 1926/27.
Wilkes trains at every opportunity and in his role as Redditch’s boys’ captain he takes time out of his schedule to talk to the club’s younger swimmers and acts as a perfect role model
He is also a member of City of Birmingham Masters and his commitment to the sport and Redditch Swimming Club r.emains outstanding.
