SWIMMING - Redditch Swimming Club win Worcester Winter League

REDDITCH Swimming Club came away as clear winners in the final of the Worcester Winter League at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

Redditch proved too strong for the competition as they scored 213 points to finish well clear of Worcester to break the latter’s eight-year hold on the competition.

And Redditch improved as the gala progressed to finish 28 points ahead of Worcester (185) with Pershore (176) in third and Sandwell Storm (147) in fourth.

It was only the second time Redditch’s name has been inscribed on the shield since the start of the Worcester Winter League in 1982.

Head Coach Jon Fletcher said “The Worcester Winter League is an opportunity for us to pitch ourselves against the best clubs the county has to offer.

“To win this competition is a real credit to the swimmers and they absolutely deserve it. I asked the team to give it everything they had in the final and they certainly delivered.

“I am very proud of the way we raced and I am really looking forward to seeing these swimmers progress.”

Redditch previously won the competition in 2013 whilst Worcester had won it every year since 2014 until the former’s success in this year’s final.

The club enjoyed recent success at the Worcester County Championships where they achieved more gold medals than any other club.

Redditch SC also finished fourth in the prestigious Regional Finals of the National Arena League.
