REDDITCH Tennis Club youngster Oliwia Sztorc was knocked out in the last 16 of the Play Your Way to Wimbledon national finals.

Sztorc won her first three round-robin matches at Wimbledon before succumbing to Anvi Karode 7-6(2) 6-0 in the last 16 of the under-14 girls competition in London.

She also competed in the under-18 doubles with fellow Redditch Tennis Club player Holly Ashford as the pair won one match and lost one match with only the top pairing progressing to the quarter-finals.

Oliwia said: “It was a really enjoyable experience, especially planning on grass like this, as it’s not something I typically have the chance to do.

“I’ve been very excited – I absolutely love it here. Playing on the grass is really nice and also just seeing everyone. It’s been really nice to meet new people.

“I want to try and win a lot of Grade 2 events, a lot of important tournaments over the next couple of years.”

The 14-year-old reached the national event after seeing off the challenge of junior tennis players from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the regional finals

Oliwia has been a member at Redditch Tennis Club since she first started playing the sport at the age of eight and is coached by Redditch’s head coach Tony Ravenscroft.
