SCUDERIA Maranga rider Trystan Finocchiaro insisted there were positives to be taken from his first-round performance in the World Supersport 300 series despite the disappointment of crashing out.
On his event debut at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Alcaniz, Spain, the weekend started in the right direction as the 19-year-old from Redditch. qualified as the fastest Brit and Honda ahead of Sunday’s race.
Qualifying 19th in World Superbike’s ‘Superpole’ style qualifying session, Finocchiaro stated on social media that he was “happy to be top Brit and top Honda”. He also expressed that, with a change of “qualifying strategy”, he and the team were capable of even more.
Race day came and Finocchiaro was prepared, confident and ready for a solid race but unfortunately for him his race was ended early after a leak from the radiator caused Finocchiaro to crash out of the 11-lap contest.
Despite not finishing the race, Finocchiaro still remains content with the weekend, stating: “We have a lot of positives to take from this weekend at Aragon and also a lot that we have learnt.
“We showed we can be the fastest Honda, so that is already one positive. However, we are looking for more than that.
“I strongly believe that pace-wise we could’ve shown a lot more, we just need to be a bit more strategical in our approach and even more pace and higher positions will follow.”
Finocchiaro and the team will now be hoping to put this into practice this weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, Netherlands, in round two.
“I expect us to continue our strong pace on to Assen and by learning from the opening round we will be able to turn this into a result,” added Finocchiaro.
“We will be putting a lot more thinking and strategy into our approach to the weekend so we can turn our capability into reality and then carry on the season like this.”
