White Hart march into Heart of England quarter-finals

WHITE Hart’s over 60s A team produced a fine team performance in beating College AG 120-96 to reach the last eight of the Heart Of England Cup.

Despite currently being four places behind their opponents in Division One, they had four winners – Tom Hawkes 21-7, Stephen Turner 21-12, Norman Batchelor 21-19 and captain Mike Estell 21-16 – which gives them a quarter-final tie against RABL A.

The team also gained a 116-97 home victory over Wythall A in the league, again having four winning cards from Stephen Turner 21-10, Ken Brown 21-13, Ian Humphreys 21-18 and Norman Batchelor 21-14.

The over 60s B team, however, were easily 124-84 at Rubery SJC, only producing one winning card from Mick Perrins 21-19.




In Thursday HOE League Division One, White Hart have pulled clear of the relegation zone following a narrow 140-137 home victory over Kings Norton Ex-Service.

The team had four winners – Stephen Turner 21-16, Paul Matthews 21-6, Tim Hollingshead 21-13 and Mike Estell 21-18.


Meanwhile, the B team were comfortably beaten in Division Four at Moseley CC B, where captain Norman Batchelor was their only winner 21-8.

They still occupy a promotion position, however, four points behind leaders Henley B.

In Warwickshire/Worcestershire Premier League Division Six, White Hart suffered their first defeat of the season at Wernley and now head the table only on shot difference.

The Redditch club had five winning cards from the 12 ties – Mike Estell 21-4, Graham Arnott 21-10, Neil Laxton 21-16, Mick Perrins and Dave Edwards both 21-19, with Dave recovering from a 14-3 deficit at one stage.

In Northfield & District Sunday League Division Two, White Hart A jumped to second place following a fine 138-131 win at Warstock A. Paul Matthews 21-15, Ian Humphreys 21-14, Norman Batchelor 21-6 and captain Mick Perrins 21-12 were their four winners.

The B team stay top of Division Four after easily accounting for Bournville Sports 163-80. Their seven winners were Tom Hawkes and Gill Croft 21-5, Anne Batchelor 21-8, Neil Laxton 21-6, Sheila Humphreys 21-12, Sue Sugden 21-13 and captain Dave Edwards 21-10.

They now lead the table by six points from Baldwin B.

In the Yardley Wood Superleague, White Hart narrowed the gap at the top of Division Four to just one point after a narrow 144-139 home win over leaders and local rivals Alcester B.

Hart’s four winning cards were from Tim Hollingshead 21-5, John Bridger 21-15, Gill Croft 21-16 and Stuart Wood 21-19.

In SW Birmingham Over 60s League Division One, White Hart A defeated Green Man A 125-92 with wins from Ian Humphreys, Mike Estell, Mick Perrins, Norman Batchelor, Ray Richards and Graham Arnott.

The B team were also successful, beating Kings Norton B in Division Three with six winning cards from Anne Batchelor 21-3, Brian Chatterley 21-7, Tom Hawkes 21-12, Sheila Humphreys 21-17, Ken Brown 21-20 and captain Kate Broome 21-16.
